What is the Difference between a Netbook, a Notebook and a Laptop?

Years ago when portable computers started becoming more popular, Laptops were designed to be more powerhouses and notebooks were designed to be for note taking. Over the years, the distinction between laptops and notebooks has faded. Both consumers and manufacturers use the terms synonymously. Today, no real differences exist. The Netbooks design however, came out later and has some definite differences between notebooks and laptops.

Laptops and Notebooks

· Designed for normal to heavy loads

· Normally comes with DVD/CD drive and burner

· Highly customizable when ordering

· Large amounts of ram and storage

· Larger in size

· Shorter battery life.

· Central processor comparable to those in Desktop computers

· More expensive

Netbooks

· Designed for light to normal loads

· No CD or DVD drive

· Smaller in size, very portable

· Smaller amounts of ram and storage

· Central processor designed for low power consumption

· Not very customizable when ordering

· Great battery Life

· Less Expensive

The device that is right for you depends on your budget and on what you plan to do with it. Film editing, photo editing, number crunching, large programs, higher budget all fall in the laptop category. School students, e-mail, i-tunes, Facebook, Youtube, Web research, low budget all fall into the netbook category.
